…there were four couples that met through a community group. One of them was an architect and we used to meet in his office. Long after the meetings were over we’d all still be there, looking wistfully at the pictures on the office walls and talking of building our own homes.
One day we asked ourselves “if we all want to build our own homes, why haven’t we done it yet?” and the answer was simple, “we can’t afford a piece of land to build on!”. But then we had the idea of working together to buy a piece of land big enough for four houses and maybe that would make it more affordable.
This was followed by two and a half years of meetings, help from the lovely Richard of Planning Aid Scotland, many emails and conversations with the local landowner and a very very long planning application.
Planning was finally granted in November 2011 and all the legal stuff should be sorted by March 2012. This is the story of what happened next…
